Started in 1963 with one M.Ed. (General) course, Department of Education, is one of the oldest department in the region planned for Teacher Education.

In due course of time new courses were added :

M.Ed. (Evening)1969 (now in abeyance)
M.A. (Education)1979
M. Phil (Education)1979 (now in abeyance)
M.Ed. (Guidance & Counselling)1991 (in abeyance for 2016-17)
M.Ed. (Educational Technology)1991 (in abeyance for 2016-17)
Pre. P.hD Course WorkJanuary 2011 onwards

M.Ed. (Educational Technology) and M.Ed (Guidance & Counselling) are unique specialized courses being offered only by our Department in the country.

All M.Ed.'s i.e. M.Ed. (General) , M.Ed. (Educational Technology) and M.Ed. (Guidance & Counselling) w.e.f. July, 2015 are of two year duration, comprising four semesters.

Vision Of The Department

  • To prepare teacher educators who have sound knowledge base, essential professional skills and human qualities.
  • To break new grounds in educational research, nurture the existing potentials and encourage inter-disciplinary and collaborative research.
  • To groom prospective teachers to meet the challenges encountered by advancements in the use of ICTE in classroom instructions.

Special Assistance Programme
In view of its outstanding research and teaching programmes, the Department of Education was awarded UGC Special Assistance Program in the thrust areas of Education Technology, Education Administration & Management and Education Psychology & Guidance. (SAP, DRS) by UGC w.e.f. 1.4.1995 till 2012.Further, Department was granted the next stage of SAP i.e. Departmental Support Assistance (DSA) w.e.f. May 2013. The thrust areas in this updated stage are: Education for Peace, Values & Sustainable development.

Doctoral Research Guidance
The Department runs a Ph.D. program wherein each teacher is entitled to enroll Eight Indian research scholars and one foreign scholar for supervising doctoral research

The Department runs only regular courses and does not deal with administrative matters of distance education and private examination in the discipline of Education.
